IN AND AROUND THE TUBE - PART I
DIRK BRUINSMA: Baritone-sax, preparations / TAO G. VRHOVEC SAMBOLEC: Live processing (Max/Msp)
An evening with the more uncommon approach to saxophone music...
This collaboration started in late December 2006, and they played their first concert at DNK Amsterdam, January 2007. Their music is based on improvisation and live sound processing. While Dirk Bruinsma plays baritone saxophone, utilizing extended techniques and extreme amplification, Tao samples everything Dirk plays, processes it, and immediately throws folded sounds back to Dirk. The sounds they create could be described as moving in-between gestures and textures with some rhythmical concerns.
I always had a dubious relation to the saxophone quartet nevertheless this is the second one I'm going to try. This time it is with fellow skeptics and for that reason more of a challenge. It will be a trip deep into the tube to find the rumbling guts of this over-romanticised instrument.
All four of us have a long experience with the outskirts of the trade, so be ready for an uncompromising and dangerous experience.

IN AND AROUND THE TUBE - PART III
MICHAEL VATCHER: Drums and percussion / YEDO GIBSON: Soprano-sax / JOHN DIKEMAN: Alto-sax / RENATO FERREIRA: Tenor-sax / DIRK BRUINSMA: Baritone-sax / TAO G. VRHOVEC SAMBOLEC: Live processing (Max/Msp)
A joint venture where the sax quartet will be sparring the precise hits of Vatcher (the drummer with 'gut' timing) while the live sampled fragments of Tao will try to trap us in his nets.
